About this place
The signature attraction at Menya Kuroda in Nerima is pork bone ramen enriched with black mayu, a roasted garlic oil that lends deep savoriness. The creamy, gentle tonkotsu base gains smoky depth from the mayu, accented by crunchy wood ear mushrooms and tender chashu pork. The kitchen also caters to different preferences with a classic rich white tonkotsu ramen, a briskly spiced red tonkotsu, and an intensely fiery bari-kara version.
The thin noodles catch the soup well, and you can specify your preferred firmness before ordering additional whole or half noodle refills (kaedama). Countertop containers of spicy pickled mustard greens, red pickled ginger, and garlic invite adjustments right up to the final mouthful. Side dishes include handy mini rice bowls such as mentaiko rice, green chili shirasu rice, and mini curry rice, allowing you to assemble a more substantial meal.
Seating includes both counter spots and tables, and orders are placed verbally rather than through a ticket machine. An assortment of snackable sides like chashu pork and simmered tender pork cartilage joins beer, sours, and shochu, making it an easy stop for drinks after work. Open for lunch and through until 6:00 in the morning, it is equally handy as a late-night refuge. Note that payment is cash only and reservations are not taken.
